Hideaway has roots in Tielt. Around 1983 Johan Guidee (dr), Jean-Marie Herman (gtr) and Hennie Monbalieu (bs) co-founded a local band ’the Exciters’ with Rik Michiels, owner of the local Music Center and leader of the band.
Two years later our ways separated.
In 1986 Johan, Hennie and Jean-Marie were looking for a replacement frontman. Several local guys were tried out, until we met Ralph Bonte at a Duke Robillard Concert in Bruges. That’s when the pieces of the puzzle started to make sense.
Soon the band played all over Bruges and became local heroes that couldn’t be overlooked. Ralph started writing his own songs.
In 1988 Hennie had to quit the band. He couldn’t be missed at his bar ’t Sloeberke in Koolskamp. Vincent Pierins replaced Hennie on Bass.
Vincent and Ralph started writing songs as a team, and this didn’t go unnoticed by Frank Van Rampelbergh (producer of a very popular radio-show : Boom Boom.
Frank introduced the band to the recording label Parsifal and soon the first CD was released.
